Helium has become crucial to our lives – it’s use is vital to things as diverse as MRI scanners and airship textiles, arc-welders, satellites, rockets, wind tunnels and even party balloons. Supply is increasingly uncertain - and helium is exceptionally good at permeating through containers and escaping. The answer to preventing it escape is Versaperm.
2022 was the eighth year since 2006 where helium demand exceeded supply. And the demand is booming.
Helium is better at escaping than almost any other gas, it can seep through every material, it has a particularly high vapour permeability. Making products that can keep it contained requires complex, detailed measurement and analysis – and this requires Versaperm’s helium permeability equipment. This system can measure it to an accuracy in the parts per million (PPM) to PPB ranges. Results are precise and highly repeatable.
The equipment can measure the permeability of both flat sample materials, such as laminates, films, textiles, or fully formed containers, components. pipes or finished products.
Containment without leaks or seepage is critical, especially in the medical and aerospace industries. Not just for MRIs, fuel systems and gasbags but for seals, electronics, hydraulics, refrigerants and much more. Versaperm system scan measure multiple samples at time and have a simple, automated control panel with a large touch-screen interface. They need little or no re-calibration and only minimal training.
The company offers a dedicated helium system as well as mass spectrometer-based options that can measure vapour permeability for all non-proscribed gases and gas mixtures. They can operate across a very wide range of pressures, partial pressures, temperatures, and even into supercritical areas.
As well as designing, manufacturing and supplying the equipment to institutions, companies and Standards agencies around the world, Versaperm offers a laboratory testing service and consultancy services.
